These are our new girls. Sadly we lost Pearlie and Toffee on that record breaking 46 degree day we had here in Sydney. I still can’t believe it. I was running around all day giving wet towels and frozen water bottles to the bunny and worm farm, but somehow thought that water and shade was enough for the chookies. The poor things. What an awful thing to happen.
Next time I will be ready with sprinklers, wet towels and cool water for these girls.

So sad to hear that your chooks didn’t survive the heat. You become attached to your animals and it is a loss when they are gone.

Oh that is so sad. The new girls look fun. We are going to pick up some chickens (day olds or thereabouts) on Saturday. Very excited and thanks for the warning about heat. Sad that you had to experience it first hand though.

Oh Jo, I am so sorry to hear about your chickens. You must have been heartbroken. I remember being wracked with guilt when I was indirectly responsible for the deaths of my children’s guniea pig (leaving the door open), and lovely chickens, so much worse. These new girls look gorgeous. I am terrified at the idea of keeping chickens, but hoping to work up courage one day..

Poor chookies and poor you. But in all honesty, 46c was crazy and the odds were that you would have lost a chooky in that heat. They deal with cold better than heat. Your new friends look lovely.
