On Saturday we headed out the ABC Gardening Australia Live event, thanks to some tickets I won in their Facebook competition. We stayed the whole day, attending workshops and info sessions, as well as wandering around the many stalls. We love the TV show, and it was wonderful to meet some of the presenters, hear them speak so passionately, and have some of our garden questions answered (like what on earth to do with our front yard/clay mine).
A lot of our time was spent in the Milkwood Permaculture Piazza, which was built entirely out of pallets. It looked amazing and there were so many cool things to look at. Native bees, food forests, aquaponics, and some very sweet punk chooks.
I attended the ‘Serious Backyard Veggies’ session with Michael Hewins. I learned heaps about soil biology and I now have a new garden mantra, Feed the Soil not the Plant!
I will be attempting to curb my Seasol addiction, as this only brings about short term gain.
Costa was running around giving talks, teaching terrified ladies how to pick up chooks, and hosting pumpkin races for the kids. He was as enthusiastic in person as he is on the TV. He was so passionate about sustainability and using what is available to get creative and solve problems. I have started saying to Dave, WWCD, What would Costa do? LOL
